Our Captain drifts to the right

Away match for the skitters this week and being hosted at Knoll Inn – East Brent. Under new management and putting on a fine range of real ales. As the evening progressed our brave captain tested them all for the good of his team

Our hosts kicked off first with a hand of 62.  Burtle skittle’d and found the alley drifted to the right, hands of 8 & 7’s was recorded and the team started with two hands of 60 & 56 – not good enough.

Home team went back out and wrote up a very respectable 70 and 56. Burtle responded with 56 and 59 – 16 pins down ! the captain barked, growled and stomped off the sample yet more fine real ale.  During his refreshment the captain learnt that the alleys drifting to the right was down to the tide being in at Weston and the recent rain – with his new atmospheric knowledge the captain ferried the team to the alley.

Home team was slowing and wrote up hands of 55 and 56 – was this our opening, our chance to make up ground ? Burtle responded with hands of 65 and 77 – putting the team ahead.

Home team responded with hands of 67 and 62. Burtle was 7 up and needed a hand of at least 56.  The captain was silent, this could be close, should he of tested all of the ales ?

Burtle skittled a total of 62 – winning by 7  – another WIN for the team.

Man of the match was again the team’s anchor ‘ Colin Councillor Pople’ he was the only player to break into the 60s with a final score of 64.

The landlord put on a fine supper of bread, chips, sausage, cheese and onion.
